ANDY

Finn was a revelation. Andy would never have guessed old Mr. Grumpy had a tender side but, boy, did he. Not to mention that ass. Andy could watch Finn walk around naked all day.

Somehow, given how fussy his pastries looked, Andy wouldn’t have guessed that Finn was an eat-in-bed kind of guy. Andy’s favorite Sunday morning activity was breakfast in bed. He had a feeling that breakfast in bed with Finn would lead to even more enjoyable activities.

He leaned against the headboard and took a bite of toast. “Oh my God, this bread. It’s amazing. What is that flavor?”

Finn chewed contemplatively. “There’s a little thyme in the mix and pureed olives. It turned out all right, didn’t it?”

“All right? This is the best piece of toast I’ve ever eaten.” Andy thought back to the bakery shelves loaded with sweets. “Why don’t you sell bread? Or is it a seasonal thing?”

“Finnegan’s Bakes is a patisserie—a pastry shop.” Finn said it like it was an answer. Andy wasn’t sure what the difference was between a pastry shop and a bakery, so he let it go.

He took a bite of the omelet, which was also amazing. He could get used to this.

He smiled at Finn. “This is nice. All of it.”

Finn smiled back. “Yes, it is.”

This didn’t feel like any one-night stand Andy had ever had. It was exciting and fresh, and he couldn’t wait to explore more of Finn’s amazing body, but it also felt comfortable. Safe. Like home.

“Grace says you’re moving.” Finn said quietly, looking down at his plate.

Andy was jolted back to reality. He had an audition on Monday. With any luck his life was about to change for the better. But that meant leaving this behind, whatever this was, before it had even begun.

He framed his words carefully. “Grace is being optimistic. I have an audition on Monday for a touring company. If I make it, I’ll probably need to leave immediately and there’s no telling when, or if, I’d come back. With any luck, it could be my ticket to Broadway.”

“That’s cool.” But Finn didn’t sound excited. He straightened. “I mean, it’s important to follow your dreams.”

Andy put his plate down on the bedside table and took hold of Finn’s hand. “I’m having the best time. This is a wonderful night.”

Finn set his plate down and put his arm around Andy, pulling him into his shoulder. “I’m very good at timing a bake, but I’ve never quite mastered timing in life. Maybe because I’m a coward. If Grace hadn’t told me you’re leaving, I doubt we’d be doing this tonight. But now that you’re here, I’m sorry you’re going.”

Andy tipped up Finn’s head and stared into his eyes. He stroked Finn’s cheek. “I’m glad she talked you into this. And I think the chances are good that I’ll still be here next week. The auditions were advertised all over the country. I’m expecting some stiff competition.”

“You’ll get it. I’ve seen you perform.” Finn threaded his fingers through Andy’s hair.
